Highway Access Permit

If access is from a major Highway, an Access Permit for confirmation of legal access to the property is required from the appropriate Ministry of Transportion District Office (click here for Agency List).  Submit copy with Building Permit Application.

Sewage Disposal

The homeowner is responsible to follow the maintenance plan for the septic system so that it does not pose a health hazard.  Where a private Sewage Disposal System is to be installed in accordance with the Sewerage System Regulations in British Columbia, contact a Registered Practitioner or Engineer.

Title Search

A current copy of your Title Search is required, dated within 30 days of the date of application and a copy of any and all restrictive covenants. (Tax Assessment Notice does not qualify).

Homeowner Protection Office (HPO) Requirements

If the application for permit is to construct a single family dwelling, the owner must, prior to issuance of the permit, submit either an “Owner/Builder Declaration and Disclosure Notice”  that is acquired from the Homeowner Protection Office (Click here for application form) OR the licensed builder will submit a “New Home Registration Form” which is proof of warranty insurance.  Further information may be obtained from the Homeowner Protection Office at www.hpo.bc.ca or  1-800-407-7757 or from the Building Inspection Department.
